Mystery Castle
Mystery Castle is situated in the city of Phoenix, Arizona, in the lower regions of South Mountain Park. It was worked during the 1930s by Boyce Luther Gulley for his little girl Mary Lou Gulley. In the wake of learning he had tuberculosis, Gulley moved from Seattle to the Phoenix region and started constructing the house from found or modest materials. Boyce Gulley kicked the bucket in 1945, and Mary Lou and her mom were informed by lawyer that they had acquired the property. Not long after, the mother and little girl moved in.
Their story stood out, giving the home some reputation just as its colorful name: A Life Magazine story (January 26, 1948) utilized the feature "Life Visits a Mystery Castle: A Young Girl Rules Over the Strange Secrets of a Fairy Tale Dream House in the Arizona Desert." The photo included Mary Lou presenting on the cantilever staircase prompting the top of the house. That equivalent year, Mary Lou and her mom started offering voyages through the home.
